About This Cause

In a small village of Punjab, five-year-old Ekta Rani is fighting a battle she never chose. Born with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a serious heart defect, Ekta has never known what it feels like to breathe freely. While other children her age laugh, run, and go to school, Ekta struggles to walk a few steps without gasping for air. Her lips slowly turn blue. Her tiny body has stopped gaining weight. Each day, she grows weaker.

Her father is a construction labourer in the village of Punjab. Every morning, he lifts heavy bricks under the scorching sun. He earns just enough to feed his family. But today, no amount of hard work feels enough — because the life of his daughter depends on money he does not have. Since birth, Ekta has been receiving treatment at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI Chandigarh). The family waited for years, hoping for a surgery date. They kept believing, kept praying. But no date was given.

As her condition worsened, they rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi (AIIMS Delhi). There, they were told about the long waiting queue for heart surgeries. Waiting could mean losing her. Imagine the fear of a father who hears that his child “may not survive for long.”

With trembling hope, they approached Fortis Hospital, where they met Dr. Neeraj Awasthi. He agreed to perform the life-saving surgery for ₹2 lakhs.

₹2 lakhs — for some, it is a number.

For this family, it is everything.

To save their daughter, they sold a small piece of their land — the only security they had for their future — and somehow arranged ₹40,000. They have nothing more left to sell. Nothing left to mortgage. They are still short of ₹1,60,000. At night, Ekta sleeps between her parents. Her mother stays awake, watching her chest rise and fall, afraid that one day it might stop. Her father silently wipes his tears in the dark, so his little girl never sees his fear. Ekta does not ask for toys. She does not ask for new clothes. She only asks, “Papa, when will my heart get better?”

Her small heart is tired. But her will to live is strong. Today, this family is not asking for charity. They are asking for a chance. A chance for their daughter to run.
A chance for her to breathe. A chance to grow up.
Please come forward and donate for little Ekta. Your kindness can turn her tears into smiles. Your support can give her the heartbeat she deserves.
